Tullamore D.E.W. Trilogy

A bespoke presentation box for Tullamore Dew Trilogy, a 15-year-old triple-distilled small batch whiskey. The whiskey is made from three different oak casks; oloroso sherry, bourbon and golden rum.

We came up with the idea of presenting the Trilogy whiskey through three layers, telling three stages of the whiskey’s story, to represent the three casks used in the triple distillation process of the trilogy whiskey. The exposed magnets, the circular cuts and the matte black box were used to juxtapose a very modern and minimalist expression with the classic whiskey world and create something that felt both new and familiar to whiskey connoisseurs.

The design comprises of a monolithic, matte black box to contain The Trilogy bottle and cardboard sleeve. Three oak panels seal the box; one on the front embedded with the Tullamore Dew lockup, and two to the rear telling the Trilogy story and describing the tasting notes. Each oak panel has a circular cut, referencing both the cross section of an aged oak tree, and the three individual casks used to make the Trilogy whiskey. A black silk ribbon system loops around the cardboard sleeve, and weaves across each of the oak panels, ending in a closed loop pull tab that neatly protrudes from the notched edge of the top oak layer. Four neodymium magnets on the corners of the top oak layer correspond to four embedded in the corners of black box, securing the oak layers onto the box.

The materials chosen incorporated the strong metallic and black palette of Trilogy, as well as whiskey tones, to create a box that juxtaposed the classic whiskey aesthetic with something contemporary and neo-Irish.

The oak panels and silk ribbon reference this classic whiskey world, while the black box and exposed magnetic fastening system, along with laser engraved branding and text descriptors bring an entirely contemporary vision to the forefront. The offset circular cuts in the oak panels, expose the ‘’1829’’ lockup on the cardboard sleeve and visually hint at what the box might contain.
